New St Gregorios Church Consecration, Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th

Fr.Johnson Punchakonam

A longtime dream of having a place of worship is finally coming true for Malankara (Southern part of India) Orthodox Christians. His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicolovos, The Metropolitan of North-East American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, will consecrate the new St Gregorios Church. The consecration ceremony will be held on 5 PM, Friday Dec 6th and 7 AM to 2 PM, Saturday Dec 7th, 2013.

St. Gregorios Orthodox Church is led by Rev.Fr.  Dr. M. K. Thomas Professor (Retd) of English, Moorhead University, Kentucky. Rev.Fr. M.K Thomas has been shepherding the Malankara Orthodox Christians in Triangle and the nearby region for more than two decades as part of his outreach mission.

Malankara Orthodox Christians have celebrated the Holy Eucharist (Mass) since 1973 at various locations initially once in a while and later on more frequent basis. Land for the church was acquired in 2009 and construction began in 2012. The architecture of the church incorporates traditional structural designs prevalent in Malankara (Southern part of India) Orthodox Churches from India. Currently about 50 families worship at St. Gregorios Church.
