Dr. Nishar Hameed Gets Victorian Post Doctoral Fellowship

image Deakin University’s Dr. Nishar Hameed has won a prestigious Victorian Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for 2013. The award was presented to him by the Minister Louise Asher MP, at the Parliament of Victoria on 8 of October. The Victorian Government Fellowship are instituted to strengthen the State’s innovation capability and global networks in the physical and life sciences.

“It is a great honour to receive this Fellowship. It is an award not only for me, but for Deakin, and especially for my colleagues who have supported me since my arrival in Australia,” Dr. Hameed said after being presented with his award at a special dinner in Melbourne in October. 

“I wish to congratulate Nishar on this wonderful achievement. He is an outstanding early career researcher, something this fellowship further confirms, and a highly valued member of our Institute,” said Professor Peter Hodgson, the Director of IFM. 

Dr. Hameed has won a number of awards since coming to Deakin from Kerala in India in 2007. In 2011, he won the Alfred Deakin Medal for Best Doctoral Thesis in the sciences part of the Vice Chancellor’s Prizes and Awards.  The year before Dr. Hameed won The Early Researcher section of the Smart Geelong Researcher of the Year Awards. Dr Hameed lives in Geelong with his wife Nisa, also a talented researcher, and his own pride and joy, their daughter Nilu.
