UK to Launch ‘Blood in Pee’ Campaign to Raise Awareness of Cancer Symptoms

image PHE, in partnership with the Department of Health and NHS England, has announced that the next phase of the 'Be Clear on Cancer' campaign will raise awareness of a key symptom of kidney and bladder cancers – ‘Blood in Pee.’ Early diagnosis can help improve cancer survival rates – catching cancer earlier generally makes it more treatable.

The ‘Blood in Pee’ campaign has already been tested at local and regional level. When a local pilot of the ‘Blood in Pee’campaign ran in 2012, the number of two week wait referrals for suspected urological cancer rose by 23% in the pilot area.

The regional campaign has also shown significant positive increases in awareness of symptoms and willingness to go to the doctor with those symptoms.

This campaign will run from October 15 to November 13 and will feature TV, radio and press ads and a number of public roadshows across the country to reinforce the message.
